How to Uncover Your Inspired Future

I’m a business coach.  You might not think intuition plays that big a role in what I do, but it does.  Likewise, you might think there’s not much room for intuition in the practice of medicine, at least not these days.

I recently discovered that’s not always the case.

I started seeing a functional medicine doctor a few weeks ago who combines acupressure, plant medicines, and a specialized form of coaching that digs into the psychological aspects of what we’re feeling and how that may show up as areas of discomfort or dysfunction in the body.

He’s remarkably intuitive and was able to see what I wasn’t seeing.

Let me back up a little.

In March, right before the pandemic hit, I decided it was time to increase the difficulty level of the yoga classes I was attending.

In a high-intensity yoga class, I managed to torque my knee pretty significantly, and it hasn’t been the same since.  It’s ten months later and everything I’ve done to address the problem, including physical therapy, has just made it worse.

My new doctor asked me a very un-doctor-like question … one that really gave me pause.

He asked me what my inspired future was.

Wait.  What?

Now, as a coach, I work with our clients on their vision of the future all the time.  It’s a critical foundational element.  It explains why you do what you do.  It’s your source of inspiration.

But his question surprised me and kind of took me aback.

And you know what … I hate to admit it, but I didn’t really see anything to be particularly inspired about!  I felt flat.  For those of you who know me, that’s exactly the opposite of how I typically approach life!

Where was my inspired vision?  Had all the madness of 2020 somehow immobilized me psychologically… and it was showing up somehow, physically, in my knee?

Hmmm … I don’t know, but legs, and especially knees, are about moving forward and I don’t think it’s farfetched to imagine there’s a mind/body connection there.

Regardless, his question got me thinking.  What was my inspired future?  What did it look like, sound like, feel like?

Off hand, nothing grand or profound came to mind.

But now my mind and heart were engaged.

Turns out, what’s proving to inspire me is a grab bag of somewhat less than momentous things … taking on a renovation project at the house I’ve been putting off forever … expanding my morning spiritual practice to bring more peace and happiness … venturing further into the corporate side of our presentation skills and executive coaching, which we’re really enjoying.

I paid a visit to the Wheel of Life and identified things I’d like to manifest in the areas of health, spirituality, relationships, fun, travel, and business.

Put it all together and those small, but inspired, actions turned into an inspired vision for the future!

So, what’s inspiring you in your business?  Is your inspired future clear?  Do you know what you want your business to be like as you move forward?

If not, don’t beat yourself up or try to gin up enthusiasm because you’re supposed to be inspired.  That’s counterproductive and pointless.

Simply ponder what would make you happy and fulfilled.

Then, articulate those things or write them down.  Say what you want!

It doesn’t have to be earth-shattering in its import.  All you need to do is create a small opening for yourself … a crack in the door … a place to let the light in … and just witness what comes pouring forth.

And what better time to start identifying what you want and asking for it than right now at the beginning of a new year … one that’s overflowing with possibility?

I encourage you to do the work.  Clarify and energize your vision for your business … and your life.

It’ll help you create a blessed and fulfilling 2021.

Best Wishes,
Denise
