You Can Make You Better

Don’t look now, but there goes 2018. That was quick. I don’t know about you, but the life of this business coach never really slowed down.
How well did you do with what you wanted to accomplish in your business this year?
If you came up short, don’t feel bad or beat yourself up about it. Most of us come up at least a little short much of the time, because we’re not perfect. We’re human.
And yet, this is a perfect time, during this holiday lull, to do some introspection and see where you might have undershot expectations, and more importantly, where you might make some fundamental changes that could seriously impact your performance in 2019.
But what exactly are you gonna focus on? There are dozens of variables large and small that feed into your overall performance.
I suggest you concentrate on the three critically important personal attributes we’ve talked about in the last three newsletters … rigor, grit, and focus.
To quickly recap, rigor is all about going the extra mile, especially when you really don’t feel like it, and doing whatever it takes to produce quality work every time.
Grit is all about remaining steadfast in your commitments and dogged in your determination. It’s persistence squared.
Focus is about keeping your eye on the ball and concentrating your efforts in the areas of your business that really matter … and performing the functions only you can perform.
So now, let’s do some self-assessment.
Rigor …
Do you plan and prepare or wing it more often than you should?
Do you pay attention to the details? Are you on top of your calendar or do you forget appointments?
Are you on time or do you roll in late with your hair on fire?
Do you do simple things like proofreading your written materials, editing for grammar, concision, clarity, and impact?
Grit …
When challenges arise and obstacles present themselves, how readily do you abandon an idea or project and move on to something else?
How much are you willing to invest of yourself to make things work?
Do you let self-limiting beliefs stop you?
Focus …
Do you keep plugging away consistently on the top three priorities that make a real difference … providing quality service to the customer … acquiring and retaining clients … and finding the right people to do the other stuff?
Or do allow yourself to be distracted by shiny objects?
Okay, so the business coach in me has to ask …
How would you rate yourself in these three areas? Which stands out as the one you most need to work on, so you can see a step-change over the course of 2019?
Personally, I have a reverse goal regarding grit. I need to know when to fold my cards … to let go of the bone … and move on.
What behavioral changes do you need to make in the area you’re concentrating on? Be specific. Write them down.
I’d love to know what they are. Just send me an email and tell me where you’d like to go with this.
Trust me. It’ll make a difference … and I’ll be cheering you on all the way.
Best –
