I’m about to give you an action you can take that can absolutely transform the results you get in your business. But I warn you, it sounds so simple, it’s easy to think it can’t possibly be that big a deal.
It’s easy to think there’s no way it could be a make-it-or-break-it factor when it comes to the success of your business … but it is.
Here’s a riddle for you.
How can you have a great year in your business and not feel good about it?
That’s easy. Just focus on a couple of things … what you didn’t accomplish and what you think you didn’t do well enough.
How you view anything in life is, forever and always, a matter of perspective. You all know that.
But let me tell you a quick story to illustrate just how easily and profoundly our emotional state, in the moment, can cancel out all plusses in a situation and leave us seeing only minus signs.
If you’re a professional, offering services to the public, you want your clients to think of you as a “trusted provider” … someone they know will take care of them and look out for their best interests.
Fact is, it often takes a long time to build that level of trust, comfort, and security.
And it can be lost in an instant.
Running a business presents you with a never-ending string of challenges. Sometimes they seem overwhelming … as if you’re playing a game you can’t win.
It’s the rare person who’s never experienced that sense of having too much to handle … of facing such big a gap between where you are now and where you need to be that you have no idea how you’re going to close it.
Have you ever been there? Of course you have.
Well, I’ve got a blazing insight for you … straight from the 5th game of this year’s World Series!
What do people want more than anything when it comes to the conversations and interactions they’re engaged in, especially those that are difficult or have the potential to become tense and lead to conflict?
Imagine spending YEARS trying to build a coaching practice and getting minimal results, even though you’re an extremely qualified, smart, and caring person with a lot to offer potential clients.
Can you relate to that level of frustration? When you’re working that hard with no results, you begin to doubt yourself. You begin to doubt whether you’re meant to do this work … your life’s mission … your calling.
That’s what happened to Michael, an accomplished professional, who spent four years trying to attract clients and just couldn’t seem to gain any traction with his marketing efforts.
And in a flash, he generated five new clients!
Now, how does that happen? Well, it sure didn’t happen by accident.
I just received the nicest compliment.
I gave a speech to a group recently, and afterwards a man came up to me and told me how much he had enjoyed the presentation and that I wasn’t like so many of the other people he sees. He said, “You’re a real person…authentic. You want people to walk away from today with things they can use.”
Now, you might be saying to yourself, “Well yeah, that’s the speaker’s job, isn’t it, to inform and inspire?”
I’ve been noticing lately how there are two kinds of people.
One kind prefers a lifestyle that’s decisive, planned, and orderly. They’re the folks who always wear watches, carry calendars, and rely on To-Do lists, which they prioritize and work systematically. They plan the work and work the plan.
