When You Are Put to the Test
What happens when all of a sudden you’re facing the possibility of receiving a life-threatening diagnosis?
And what the heck does this have to do with your business?
Everything. Read on.
When you’re facing a scary diagnosis, there’s an initial wave of fear and doubt. That’s a given, but beyond that … what comes next?
That’s really up to you, isn’t it?
If you’ve been reading these newsletters for a while or heard me speak, you know I’m a big believer that your mindset shapes your perspective on the world and literally creates your reality.
Whatever’s in my world … my business results … my health … the people in my life … they’re all the creation of my thoughts and my beliefs, so it’s up to me to keep my thoughts clean and green. It’s a philosophy I’ve lived by for over 20 years!
Well, I recently found myself in the position of needing to tap into my most constructive thoughts and access my most powerful positive beliefs.
Here’s what happened.
What I thought was purely a small hormonal issue that could be solved fairly easily with a modification of a prescription all of a sudden became something more. Minor surgery and biopsy required. Scary words being thrown around like malignancy and hysterectomy.
And it’s 3 or 4 weeks before I can face the surgery that’ll let me know where I stand. What to do?
Here’s where the story ties into your business. There’s a common element. Facing the unknown.
As you’re creating and expanding your business, you face a lot of unknowns. Can I do this? Will I do this? How can I make it happen?
You have to face the fear, the doubt … the same kind of insecurity I was facing as I waited for those test results.
And here’s what I took away from this experience that can help you in your business:
- When faced with a situation that brings up all your fears and doubts, you have to be absolutely rigorous in managing your thoughts and emotions. You get really truthful about what’s there. When you’re scared, you admit it.
And then you do everything it takes to SOOTHE those fears … to soften them. Unfortunately, the tendency is to “awfulize” them, which just makes them bigger.
- You keep building on what you know and trust in your heart of hearts. In the case of your business, it’s believing that you CAN do this. You do everything you can to build and expand that belief. Visualize. Meditate. Listen to inspiring videos and audios.
- You stay true to your faith … your God … the Universe … Source … whatever you call that higher power. You link to that higher power daily and lean on the strength it gives you. My mantra when I got scared was, “I trust myself. I trust the Universe.”
- You stay away from people offering information contrary to what you want and need to believe. I wasn’t going on the Internet to look up uterine cancer! That’d be crazy! Nor was I sharing this information with people who wouldn’t support me and my beliefs 100%. When I talked to one friend who seemed to be relating to me as if I were a victim, I quickly ended the call!
Here’s the thing: You’ve got to get to the point where you know and believe 90% of the way that you can and will grow your business. It doesn’t have to be 100% with no doubts. That’s unrealistic. 90% belief will get you there.
Talk to and soothe the 10% when it shows up … often in the middle of the night when we’re most vulnerable.
In the face of doubt, in the face of fear, trust yourself, trust the universe, trust the process … and trust me. You WILL get there. You WILL create the business you want.
Just like I did.
Oh, and those test results? 100% benign! No further action needed.
I knew it!
And still, I’m relieved to have my beliefs confirmed … and very grateful.
