Crossroads and Lost Roads

Crossroads and Lost Roads_smSome people are blessed to know what they want to do with their lives from an early age. Then there are those among us who never quite figure out what we want to do and which interests we want to seriously pursue “when we grow up.” And so, we grow just a little bit older every year without having found our calling, our true passion in life. And that’s a shame, because doing what you love and loving what you do is such a big part of being deep-down happy and fulfilled.

Some people make choices easily … even impulsively. Others suffer over life’s decisions, intent on keeping their options open … until time forecloses on each possibility, one by one. The chance to grab the brass ring slips away, not because we were lazy or because we tried and failed, but because we were frozen into indecision and inaction by fear and doubt and uncertainty.

Singer songwriter extraordinaire, David Wilcox, speaks to this so poignantly in his song, Hold It Up to the Light.

It’s too late – to be stopped at the crossroads
Each life here – a possible way
But wait – and they all will be lost roads
Each road’s getting shorter the longer I stay

Can you relate? Now that another year has come and gone, are you feeling that twinge … that now-or-never feeling about some big decision you’re trying to make? You want to make a bold move, but you’re afraid of making a mistake. And how can you possibly know before you make your decision if it’s the right choice for you?

You can’t. But you can hold it up to the light.

I said God, will you bless this decision?
I’m scared, Is my life at stake?
But I see if you gave me a vision
Would I never have reason to use my faith?

I was dead with deciding – afraid to choose
I was mourning the loss of the choices I’d lose
But there’s no choice at all if I don’t make my move
And trust that the timing is right
Yes and hold it up hold it up to the light
Hold it up to the light, hold it up to the light

That decision of yours? It may never be easy to make, but if you can get past the endless chatter in your brain, and just hold it up to the light … the light of inspiration … of divine guidance … of pure possibility … you’ll be choosing from a place of peace and inner wisdom and not from a place of anxiety and pressure. And that can make all the difference.

Our wish for you? When you reach life’s crossroads, may your path always reveal itself, may your choices be clear, and may the best years of your whole life start right now … right here.

Happy New Year.
