Do One Thing Every Day

DoOneThingI want to share with you a simple, but powerful, practice I got from Brian Tracy that’s really made a difference for me.

He says to figure out the most important action you need to take in order to reach your goals. Then, spend at least some time every day working on it. Sounds simple, but here’s the thing. There was a time I wasn’t doing this routinely, and I’m guessing most of you are hit and miss on it too. Let me tell you … it works!

My most critical marketing strategy in building my business is speaking to groups, and it’s important for me to be doing those things that result in bookings.

Was I spending time on those activities? Sure, but here’s the thing. I was waiting until I could block out significant blocks of time. I just knew that I needed to block out an hour or two to make calls and send out speaking materials and I couldn’t find the time I thought I needed. And sometimes, I’d put things off until I felt more inspired or energetic.

That approach doesn’t work nearly as well as doing something … one thing … every day. Now, I might just pick up the phone and make a call and book an engagement in the time it used to take to figure out when I was going to set aside time to make calls!

Some days I do quite a bit, working in coordination with my speaking and tour manager. Other days, I do very little. It might be nothing more than making a follow-up phone call or doing some administrative work, but the key truly is to do something every day.

I’ve been pretty good about it. Yes, I’ve missed a few days. It’s hard not to, but the important thing is setting the intention. You’ll get a lot more done if you resolve to do one thing every day and miss a day here and there than you will if you wait till it’s convenient … or you have time blocked out … or you’re feeling moved to take action.

The bottom line: This has been a great practice for me, and it’s so simple. It’s brought me amazing results. In the couple of months after I made this a daily practice, I booked five engagements and assisted our Speaking and Tour Manager in booking another five. Those are exceptional results. And it happened with ease!

I really hope you’ll try it out and let me know how well it works for you.
