How to Get Better Results Than Social Media

How many times have you heard somebody say, “Social media is the way to build a business?”

And how many times have you said to yourself, “But I don’t want to do it! I don’t like it. I don’t really understand it. I don’t have the time to learn all the ins and outs. It seems to suck up so much time and I’m not even sure it really works!”

That’s a good question.

Does it work?

Can you really attract new clients by sending out Tweets and posting on various sites and doing the whole Internet networking thing?

Probably … some.

But the essential question is, can you build a thriving business and generate a steady stream of new clients using social media as your primary marketing tool?

Almost certainly not. There’s more hype there than substance.

In most cases, what people want is a firsthand, face-to-face, up-close-and-personal experience of you before they pony up good money to hire you as a service provider. In fact, in this day and age, people are craving that personal level of connection.

And one thing’s for sure, social media doesn’t bring in clients in bunches.

Okay, so what does?


Speaking to groups of people in your target market has not only proven to be the number one way to build a business, it gives you the ability to do it quickly!

Go out and speak to 20, 40, 100 ideal prospects. If you do a good job, provide solid value, make a genuine connection with them, and present a compelling offer, you’ll walk away with several new clients from that one engagement.

And that’s what you want, isn’t it? A way to connect with a lot of the people who need you, all at once, in a personal, face-to-face setting …where you can let them know who you are, what you offer, and what you can do for them … as you generously share your knowledge and wisdom with them.

And butterflies aside, it’s fun. It’s rewarding. It’s self-actualizing.

But how do you go about it? It’s not as if you just pick up the phone and schedule a talk and a bunch of the perfect people just magically show up.

You have to know what groups to contact, how to contact them, how to get the talks booked, how to connect at a deep level with the audience, how to put together a compelling presentation and offer, so they want more of you and what you have to share.

There’s a method to it, and it takes skill.

I’ve been out there speaking for over 14 years. I’ve built and maintained a 6-figure coaching practice and can track more than a million dollars worth of income directly from the speaking I’ve done.

Do I use social media? Sure, but, only as an adjunct to my high-touch marketing, because it’s a low to medium-touch method, and those just can’t and won’t blow the doors off your results like speaking will.
